Cell Phone And Cancer – An Analysis
If a view of a busy street was to be taken, one would find most people walking with their mobile phones stuck to their ears! It leaves you wondering, whether there ever was a time when cell phones were not there? How did we manage all the emergencies and urgent calls, I wonder? Well, whatever it is, the one true factor is that the mobile phone has been an instrument of great help to most of the people, whether it is for their business, corporate work or to talk to a near and dear one, who is out of the reach of a landline.
To our dismay, there have been various reports from the last few years warning the mobile users to reduce the usage, as the radiation from it is known to be harmful for health. Though it has not been proved, research is continuing in this regard. The recent study which was conducted by the European Commission Scientific Committee and published in 2007 concluded that the rays from the mobile phone are likely to lead to cancer in humans.
The mobile phone uses electromagnetic radiation, which is the same range as in the microwave and which is the culprit for causing cancer in humans. The risk is increased in those who make prolonged use of this phone. The risk of developing glioma, which is a type of tumor which starts in the brain or spine, may be high in those who use this instrument for more than 30 minutes per day and who have been using it for 10 years or more.
The World Health Organization has published findings on 3rd June, 2011, that claims to have found evidence that mobile phones are liable to cause cancer. Scientists from 14 countries have come to this conclusion after a full review of the studies conducted by their peers. A study by researchers at the National Institute of Health in February, 2011, found that the radiation from a cell phone emitted for 50 minutes or so, increased the activities of the cells in the brain.
Technology is becoming more and more entwined into our lives, making it impossible for us to perform our day to day work without it. Be it the computer, the internet or the cellular devices, our professional life will not move forward without them. So, the only solution that can be arrived at is to take precautions, like, making shorter calls and using headphones, so that the head is away from the mobile phone. And the last and most important precaution is to keep it away from the children, as the effect is more on growing organisms.
